Dr. Allegro received his Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts in Hispanic Studies specializing in 20th Century fiction and theatre. He received his M.F.A. in Cinema from the University of Southern California. Dr. Allegro has written, directed, and produced many graphic and animated films, experimental films, and documentaries.

“Finding Chopin: The Paris Years” was honored with its world premiere in 1999 at the Smithsonian Institution’s International Chopin Conference. It is the first part of a biographical trilogy which includes “Finding Cicero: The Last Years of the Roman Republic” and his latest work “Blood of the Poet: The Life and Death of Federico Garcia-Lorca.” Dr. Allegro’s next production, now in the planning stages, will document the Miami avant-garde of the 1980’s in which he played an important role both as an artist and as a member of the core group of intellectuals which helped shape the Florida art scene of that energetic decade. Dr. Allegro hopes to release this documentary in early 2009.
